What Is
a Bichectomy?

A bichectomy, also known as buccal fat pad removal, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes fat from the cheeks. This procedure is mostly performed on individuals who want to reduce the size of their cheeks and create a more chiseled and defined facial appearance. The fat, which is located in the cheeks and is responsible for the “chubby” look, is removed with the help of a small incision inside the mouth. The procedure is generally done under local anesthesia and takes about an hour to complete. During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision inside the mouth and then gently remove the fat from the cheeks. The incision is then closed with sutures and the patient is given medication to manage the pain and discomfort.

What is Bichectomy Procedure

A bichectomy is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat deposits from the cheeks. This procedure is often used to reduce the appearance of chubby cheeks, giving the face a slimmer and more contoured look. The procedure is minimally invasive and requires very little downtime. Here is a step-by-step guide on how a bichectomy procedure is done.
First, the patient must meet with a surgeon to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure. The surgeon will assess the facial structure and evaluate the patient’s medical history to determine if they are a good candidate for the procedure.

How is a Bichectomy Procedure Done?

Bichectomy can be performed with local anesthesia or sedation anesthesia if it is not combined with another operation. For this, a one percent planning is made in advance and it is important to make a personalized planning by taking into account the face of the person while this planning is being done. Then, 2 incisions of 1 cm are made from the inside of the mouth to the oral mucosa, and the previously planned fat sacs are removed and the cheek is thinned. Thus, with the thinning of the cheek, the cheekbones become more prominent. If there is fat accumulation under the chin, liposuction can be performed on this area and also the jaw lines can be made more prominent. The surgery takes an hour on average.

What Are the Risks and Side Effects of bichectomy?

Bichectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing fat from the cheeks to reduce their volume. This procedure can help create a more defined facial structure and improve the appearance of the face. While it is a relatively safe procedure, there are still risks and side effects associated with it.
The most common risks associated with bichectomy are infection, bleeding, and nerve damage. During the procedure, the surgeon must make an incision in the cheek area, which increases the risk of infection. Bleeding may also occur during or after the procedure, and there is a risk of nerve damage due to the proximity of the nerves to the area where the fat is being removed.
After the procedure, there may be swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the area. These side effects should subside after a few days and can be minimized by using cold compresses and taking pain relief medication. In some cases, an uneven appearance may occur due to asymmetrical fat removal.
In addition, because the fat is removed permanently, there is a risk of facial sagging over time due to loss of volume. This can be prevented by having the procedure performed by an experienced and qualified surgeon who can ensure a balanced and natural look.
Overall, bichectomy is a safe procedure but it is important to be aware of the risks and side effects associated with it. It is also important to consult with a qualified and experienced surgeon to ensure the best results and minimize any complications.
